The American Express 2012 Outstanding Service to the Profession Award recognises Members that have made an outstanding contribution to the accounting profession over their entire career and in recent years.

One person who nominated Tony credits him with gaining international respect for New Zealand in the accounting industry. Another nominator say van Zijl’s achievements have enriched and enhanced the accounting profession.
Tony is an academic accountant based at Victoria University of Wellington.
He’s a Life Member of the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand and former New Zealand President of this organisaion.
In 2011 he won Victoria University’s Research Excellence Award
Tony’s intellect and ability to blend conceptual and academic thought with the world of practice has been a major shaping force in accounting developments in New Zealand.

The nomination process is confidential and Members should not be told they have been nominated. You can nominate any full Member of NZICA for this award. They can be any age, and can work in New Zealand or overseas.
This prestigious award is presented to one nominee each year. The judging panel may consider other nominees as future candidates for the award.
