Professional Accounting School/Professional Competence Examination
(PAS/PCE)
The PAS/PCE component of the Professional Competence Programme is
designed to provide employers and other users of accounting services
with a high level of assurance that those admitted to the College of
Chartered Accountants have demonstrated the required potential to
develop the appropriate range and level of competencies expected of a
Chartered Accountant.
This expectation requires that newly admitted members not only
have technical knowledge gained from tertiary study and a period of
professional experience, but that they have developed and
demonstrated other professional skills, namely the ability to:
- identify and solve business problems
- communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- demonstrate ethical behaviour
- apply critical thinking
- access, analyse and synthesise information
- work effectively in a team and, when required, take a leadership
role
- integrate knowledge across the accounting sub-disciplines and a
range of other business disciplines
- maintain currency of technical skills.
PAS is a seven month, part-time, small group and self-study
programme, that commences in February of each year and is structured
around six, two-day workshops. PCE is a case-study based
examination that follows PAS and is sat in October.
It is essential that candidates enrolled in 2011 PAS/PCE attend ALL
workshops during the year. Non-attendance at any workshop may result in
a candidate being ineligible to sit the final written examination in
October 2011. To avoid conflicts with the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand
during 2011, the dates scheduled for 2011 PAS workshops and the PCE
are:
| Workshop 1 |
1 & 2 April 2011 |
| Workshop 2 |
29 & 30 April 2011 |
| Workshop 3 |
27 & 28 May 2011 |
