Introduction
The School Annual Report Awards are sponsored jointly by the New
Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Ministry of Education
and recognise and honour those Schools that have achieved excellence in
Annual Reporting - presenting a true and fair account of the year's
activities.
Aim of the Awards
The aim of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants School
Annual Report Awards is to encourage quality, excellence, integrity and
communication with stakeholders and parents and caregivers through the
provision and presentation of information in Annual Reports.
The annual reporting is as much about student achievement and
discussion on community issues as well as the financial reporting.
Awards Overview
These Awards are open to every school in New Zealand.
In recognition of the widely differing school sizes and resources
available, this Award programme has three
entry categories
Category 1 - High Schools and Colleges
Category 2 - Primary, Intermediate, Area and Composite Schools
(100 or more pupils)
Category 3 - Primary, Intermediate, Area and Composite Schools
(fewer than 100 pupils)
Award Placings
The Awards presented within each entry category at the Judges'
discretion are:
Supreme Winner
This award recognises the best school annual report of the year and
is selected from the winners of all entry categories within the School
Annual Report Awards. The Supreme Award winner will receive a Hewlett
Packard Tablet PC worth $3,500, a trophy and a
certificate.
Category Winner
This recognition is reserved for the Annual Report that achieves the
highest level of excellence in its category. Winners will receive a
prize of $1,000, a Pocket Media Drive from Hewlett Packard worth $249, a
trophy and a certificate.
Commendations
This pays tribute to the Annual Report(s) commended by the judging
panel in each category, other than the winner. Commendations will
receive a prize of $250 and a certificate.
Spot prize for short listed entrants
Schools whose annual report is short listed this year will go in the
draw to win $500 cash. There is one cash prize to give away in each
category
The judging panel will provide feedback to entrants so that they can
understand what the judges look for in an annual report. Each school
whose annual report is short-listed will receive a specific feedback
report. A generic feedback report will be produced
for non-short listed schools summarising the overall positives
and negatives from the annual reports submitted. This will be posted on
the Institute and Ministry of Education’s website and will also be
reported in the Chartered Accountants' Journal in
December.
